"It [Begone Dull Care] was a film of accident, yes, of discovering the value of accidents. That's a very important thing in doing animation is to know the value of accidents and be alert to them, and see it [...] as a process of discovery. One of us would find something, and one of us would find something else, and there'd be mad excitement [...]. We went over to Woolworth's one day with a pair of calipers set to the width of a film, and we went around measuring all kinds of things on the counter that would make repeat patterns. The clerk in the store must have wondered who these funny people were, measuring the width of pieces of lace and..."

"Les couleurs étaient appliquées en bandes, en taches, en trames, en utilisant n'importe quel matériel à portée de main, [..] en faisant courir un peigne à dents fines sur la teinte encore mouillée, on obtenait un résultat intéressant [...] tout matériel qui promettait des résultats intéressants étaient utilisés, sans que l'on s'occupe de sa finalité originale."
