Film Description:
"A true story about the extreme separation anxiety I suffered as a nine year old."
-- Andrea Dorfman (source)

Film Description:
"The emotional turmoil of a nine-year-old girl suffering separation anxiety from her parents is movingly depicted in this poetic film. Mixing home movies shot in supersaturated colours with dramatic recreations in black and white, [Andrea] Dorfman evokes the memories of a child who could not shake her groundless fears of abandonment. The lack of control experienced by the girl is effectively conveyed by the nearly abusive treatment she receives from a psychiatrist. Structured to the rhythms of a children's clapping game and grounded in the girl's efforts to dance disco-style in her backyard. Nine is as mysterious as the ailment that possessed the narrator in her childhood."
