"Jaynelle Kennedy, a young Aboriginal woman, dreams of finishing school and building a good future for herself and her two infant sons. Instead, she faces a reality haunted by the ghosts of childhood abuse and the inadequacy of a social system that does more to defeat than assist her. Filming over the course of two years, Winnipeg director Coleen Rajotte takes us through the ups and downs of Jaynelle's struggle, creating a moving portrait of a Dene woman determined to overcome the violence of her personal and cultural histories."
