55,000 for Breakfast

Directed by Lawrence Cherry and Evelyn Spice Cherry
Canada, 1949 (documentary, 11 minutes, English)
Also known as "55,000 petits déjeuners"

Film Description:
"The film reports on a meeting of the International Federation of Agricultural Producers at Guelph, Ontario, and its plan to help solve the dire problem of world hunger—a problem sharpened by the birth of 55,000 more human beings, arriving 'for breakfast,' each day. Delegates emphasize the plight of the many nations who face starvation while others have a surplus of food. The Canadian delegate presents a proposal for an international agency to ensure fair distribution of food. It is endorsed by the conference, which challenges the world to make it work."
