"The companion film to its breakout counterpart Black Bodies, this stunning short provokes (metaphoric) consideration of running a marathon you can't afford to lose. After dealing with a high-profile incident of racial bias in California [...] Kelly Fyffe-Marshall was compelled to turn to art for healing as a way to work through the trauma. Through this process Marathon was born, allegorically taking the the viewer on a journey of a Black man through history—asking the question, what is it like to be Black in 2018? Teaming back up with cinematographer Jordan Oram [...] the duo sought out to create a piece that was visually captivating, emotive, and honoured the endurance and power of people of colour to persevere."
