Film Description: "The practice of psychiatry often provokes a range of ethical dilemmas for all those involved—the patient, the family and members of the clinical team. Many of these issues have become part of the public agenda, as legislation and health care policy is formulated to deal with public concerns. Crying for Happiness examines these ethical questions from the first hand perspective of patients and staff. Designed as a teaching tool and workshop resource, Crying for Happiness will challenge the viewer to rethink some of the traditional values about the theory and practice of psychiatry. The value system implicit in the psychiatric relationship is explored and offered for reassessment. Crying for Happiness looks at the connection between social conditions, the mental health institution and the broader community." -- V tape (source) |
