"A lyrical film in which the houses themselves are the stars. They appear in all seasons accompanied by intimate Schubert compositions played on the piano. The camera moves in to detail windows, doors, verandahs, wood, stone and brickwork and each shot is as carefully composed as one of Ondaatje's paintings."
