Film Description: "Over thirty thousand women were at the 1995 NGO forum in Beijing / Huairou... that means there are at least thirty thousand stories to be told. Mine is one of them... I cannot... see the world through women's eyes (United Nations theme for Beijing)... The beholder is me. This video includes the land and the people of China (I travelled seventy-two hours by train from South to North in order to reach Beijing. I also travelled East to West down the 684 kilometres of the Yangtze River known as the legendary Three Gorges, that is soon to be flooded for a hydro dam already under construction). It is in this context that I situate my reflections [on the] women's gathering in Beijing. Join me in this journey... through one woman's eyes." -- Marjorie Beaucage (source) |
