Intertribal Time --
Film Description:
"Intertribals are special pow wow dances in which everyone—including audience and regardless of age or race—is invited to come up and dance. In Intertribal Time, painterly and personal footage of this dance is mixed with the sound of radio news broadcasts, creating a poignant, wry documentation of cultural juxtaposition and contrast. The video footage is seen almost entirely in real time, inviting the viewer to focus on the beauty of the dancers and the tempo of 'Indian Time'. The disturbing broadcasts document environmental, social and political crisis. Their impact is increased by the fact that they were all recorded in the few evening hours that a pow wow takes place. In the face of this global, colonially imposed disaster, the need for people to dance together can be seen in its broadest context."
